Brainstorm Blog #2

Updated: Mar 11

When I first heard about this project, I had a difficult time finding some ideas, especially when the challenge was to make it 4 minutes and 33 seconds long. My first initial idea was to create a busy cityscape environment, filled with sounds like traffic, people chatting, and sirens off in the distance. But after realizing that it would be really annoying to listen to with headphones, I thought of another idea – a day in the life of a student. I planned to use sounds like the alarm clock buzzing and the clatter of keyboard keys. I felt like this was a great topic, especially since it was relatable to me as a student. However, as I dove deeper into brainstorming, I had an idea click.

I found myself drawn to the sounds that reminded me of nature. I've always felt a connection to the outdoors as it's my go-to place when I need to unwind or clear my head. From the sounds of a gently flowing stream to the melodic chirping of birds, something about it creates a soothing effect that I find incredibly therapeutic.

The main idea for this project is to create a sound piece that felt like a personal relaxation spot, something I could listen to when I needed to step away from everyday stress. This idea was special because it not only suited what I liked but also had something everyone could enjoy, offering a sound-based getaway for anyone needing a break. I aimed to create not just any mix of sounds but an experience that can bring out the calming and refreshing side of nature. Through this project, I wanted to show how simple natural sounds can create a sense of calm and reflection, reflecting how nature positively affects our well-being.
