Final Artist Statement
My project, "Moments of the Decade" is a zine that brings to life the most iconic sports moments of the 2010s decade. This work was driven by my love for sports and my background in editing and graphic design. The main idea was to create a piece that feels like you're flipping through a collection of your favorite sports posters, like the ones that could hang on the wall in your room and will instantly take you back to those thrilling moments.
Growing up, sports were a big part of my life and these moments that I chose to feature are more than just memorable plays; they are snapshots that remind me of the excitement and joy sports brought in my years growing up as a teenager. With that said, I wanted to share that feeling with other sports fans in my generation who can look back and feel the same nostalgia as I do.
In creating this zine, I focused on making each page pop and have the moment stand out while being consistent and clean in the design. The most challenging part of the process was finding high-quality images that worked well with the designs I imagined. For some, it took a while, but I ended up feeling proud of how a lot of them turned out. I was able to capture the energy and emotion that I wanted to show in each event. However, looking back, I see room for improvement. If I could do it over or have more time, I would add more variety to the designs and touch up each page. I would also include more moments since twelve doesn't fully cover the decade's worth of sports history.
This project taught me a lot about the creative process, from the importance of planning to the challenges of choosing what to design. It also showed me the power of visual storytelling in connecting with others. Working on this project was a lot of fun! I enjoyed the process of bringing my ideas to life and seeing the variety of creative stories my classmates made in their zines.
